Almost three years after hearing the case, the Industrial Court has ruled that LIAT unfairly dismissed pilot Captain Michael Blackburn.
He was fired in December 2011.
And yesterday’s judgement backs up the 2012 finding of the Labour Commissioner. Ruggles Ferguson in Grenada is one of Blackburn’s lawyers.
He tells Observer Media he got the good news yesterday evening and he is waiting for a written judgment. The lawyer says the document should be available today.
Ferguson also says the Industrial Court still has to assess the damages for unfair dismissal.
Observer Media was unable to reach any LIAT official for comment on the ruling.
Meantime, Ferguson says Captain Blackburn now has to decide if he will proceed with a constitutional matter against the Industrial Court.
