A junior ranking officer in the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda was shot in the left leg yesterday when a masked man opened fire while robbing patrons of a bar in Martin’s Village.
That’s according to the police, who also said the officer’s injury is not life threatening and that he was the only person injured in the 12:30 a.m. attack at SP Bar on Thursday.
The injured officer has been identified as #232 Constable Aaron Gage who is attached to the Johnson’s Point Police Station.
At the time of the incident, he was off duty, in civilian clothing and was one of the patrons.
Lawmen said the gunman was dressed in army like camouflage and black boots.
The masked individual reportedly jumped out of a car, ran into the bar with his gun pointed and robbed the patrons of their money. It was earlier reported that a second armed man was involved.
Sources said it appeared that the officer was not singled out but was injured when several shots were fired wildly during the incident.
The perpetrator, lawmen said, was described to be about five feet, three inches tall, of medium built and dark in complexion.
The police issued an appeal for anyone with information concerning this crime to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 and 462-3914 or the nearest police station.
