Man who breached fence at oil refinery under police guard at hospital

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Feb. 21, CMC –  A man who breached the fence at the government owned oil refinery Petrotrin, is now under police guard at the San Fernando General Hospital to the south of here, for injuries sustained in a confrontation with security guards.
Petrotrin says that early Wednesday, Petrotrin’s Estate Police detained a member of the public who breached the perimeter of the fence bordering the company’s Pointe-a-Pierre refinery.
According to initial reports, at approximately 1:30 a.m. (local time) Petrotrin’s security officers, on patrol in a secure area of the refinery, spotted an unauthorized person in the area.
The intruder was deemed to be a threat and action was taken by the security officers in response thereto which resulted in injuries being sustained by the intruder.
No other persons were reported as being injured.
The police, Petrotrin’s Fire Department and Emergency Health Services were immediately notified.
The individual was later taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment where he remains under guard.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Petrotrin says it remains committed to securing the assets under its control and protecting the lives of all our employees.
