A Liberta man who got into an altercation with his children’s mother and her male companion was ordered yesterday to pay a fine of $750 and $2,000 compensation to the woman.
Twenty-seven-year-old Lester Kevin Dyer Jr. pleaded guilty to three of the charges laid against him that stemmed from the October 15 incident.
On October 24, Dyer pleaded guilty to both wounding charges on 23-year-old Jahmilla Harvey of Liberta and Jameal Jarvis, 28. However, he denied using threatening language and that charge was withdrawn by the prosecution.
The case was adjourned to yesterday.
When the case resumed in the All Saints Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Dyer was ordered to pay $2,000 compensation sum for the cost incurred by Harvey to fix the teeth Dyer damaged. The sum must be paid within a month or he would be sent to Her Majesty’s Prison for 30 days.
The now convicted man who was previously unknown to the court was fined $750 for wounding Jarvis.
He needed to pay that fine yesterday by the close of business at 3 p.m. or spend 14 days at Her Majesty’s Prison.
The facts of the case are that on October 15 at approximately 1 a.m. Dyer went to the home he shares with Harvey, who attempted to prevent him from entering the house but he managed to gain entry and met Jarvis on the bed.
A physical altercation ensued. Dyer grabbed a fork and started to stab Jarvis. He also hit Harvey on her face as she was holding on to him.
The police were called to the scene of the fracas and according to the police report, Dyer threatened to kill Jarvis – an allegation, which he, Dyer, denied.
The accused was taken to the Liberta Police Station by his parent. He was detained, questioned and slapped with three charges.
