A young man from Greenbay Hill has been sentenced to 10 months in prison following his latest conviction for breaking and entering.
The offender, Jermaine Thomas, has added to his growing list of similar offences, prompting the court to impose a custodial sentence.
The crime in question involved a break-in at E-Bike Tours on August 29 where Thomas stole an electric bicycle valued at $4,000, a cash register worth $500, and $500 in coins.
In addition to the theft, he caused $960 in damage to the store’s glass window.
According to police, the business owner had secured the premises before leaving. Upon returning at approximately 6:30am the following morning, he discovered that a glass window had been broken and both the bicycle and cash register were missing.
Surveillance footage later revealed that Thomas used an implement to cut the padlock on the burglar bars, and two stones to shatter the glass, gaining entry to the store.
Given Thomas’s history of similar offences, the magistrate determined that compensation alone would not suffice as punishment.
Despite the offender’s offer to work hard and repay the damages, the court decided on a custodial sentence.
Thomas received six months for malicious damage and 10 months for breaking and entering.
The magistrate ordered these sentences to run concurrently, resulting in a total prison term of 10 months.
