Winston Hall, a 57-year-old resident of Tindale Road, died Wednesday morning following a sudden medical emergency in downtown St John’s. The incident occurred at the intersection of Redcliffe Street and Corn Alley.
According to eyewitnesses, the man, known in the Jamaican community as “Daddy Cliff,” had briefly visited his parked vehicle before sitting down on the sidewalk where he subsequently collapsed. Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene within 30 minutes of the initial report.
Medical personnel immediately initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), following which the patient was quickly transported to Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre where emergency staff continued resuscitation efforts. Despite receiving intensive medical care, he was pronounced dead at 9:07am.
Initial examinations revealed no signs of physical trauma, however a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the official cause of death.
Family members reported that the deceased appeared to be in good health before leaving his residence earlier that morning.
At the family’s request, Hall’s body was transferred to Straffie’s Funeral Home.
