Greenbay resident George Akeba Chiddick has been remanded to His Majesty’s Prison (HMP) until October 10, following his initial court appearance on serious firearm-related charges.

Chiddick appeared at the St John’s Magistrate Court before Magistrate Dane Hamilton Jr as he faced accusations of shooting with intent to do grievous bodily harm, possession of a .32 pistol and ammunition, and using a firearm to commit an offence.

He was wanted by police in connection with an alleged shooting incident at his George Street home that resulted in a young woman receiving a wound to her left leg. The incident occurred last week Tuesday around 8:30am.

At yesterday morning’s hearing, defence attorney Damien Benjamin told the court that a bail application would be made for his client, since only the High Court can grant bail for firearm offences.

Benjamin also told the court that the ballistics and medical reports needed to be shared with the defence team before the case could proceed, noting that, at the time of the initial hearing, he had not received them.

Committal proceedings are now set to begin on October 10 to determine if the case will advance to the High Court.
