Louis Barry, a 22-year-old resident of Bendals, has been sentenced to 36 months in His Majesty’s Prison after being found guilty of illegal firearm and ammunition possession.

The young man appeared before Magistrate Dane Hamilton Jr in the Magistrate’s Court on Friday, facing charges of unlawful possession of a .38 Taurus revolver and four rounds of .38 ammunition. Barry pleaded guilty to both charges.

For the firearm possession, Barry received an 18-month sentence, with an additional 6-month sentence for the ammunition, to be served concurrently.

The arrest came as a result of a police operation on August 7, during which several search warrants were executed on various properties.

The illegal weapon was discovered in Barry’s possession during the operation, leading to his immediate arrest.

Barry sought to convince the magistrate that he had found the gun somewhere and that he was willing to pay a fine.

However, the Court discovered that Barry had outstanding fines up to $16,000 from a previous firearm possession conviction, resulting in the additional 18-month sentence.

Last year, Barry, who said he is a vegetable farmer, was convicted of illegally having a Smith and Wesson 9mm gun and ammunition.
