Antiguan Rocco Falcone is poised to make his dreams a reality on the world stage, as he prepares for the upcoming UniCredit Youth America’s Cup in Barcelona on September 17.
Rocco’s sailing career began in the waters surrounding Antigua, where he first mastered the Optimist class. As his skills grew, so did his ambitions.
He quickly progressed through various classes – Laser, 29ers, Dragons – and even ventured into big boats and classic yachts. But the thrill of offshore racing truly captured his heart, leading him to complete three Atlantic crossings before many of his peers had even left home waters.
Falcone’s talent didn’t go unnoticed. After proudly representing Antigua and Barbuda at the SSL Gold Cup Finals in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, he set his sights on Europe.
In January 2023, Rocco embarked on a new chapter, determined to prove himself among the world’s elite young sailors.
“I am honoured to represent Antigua at the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup, I’m especially grateful to those who have supported me along the way,” said Rocco.
Since joining the Youth Team, Falcone has immersed himself in an intensive training regimen. Working alongside some of the sport’s top coaches and athletes, he’s honing his skills for the high-stakes competition that lies ahead.
As September 17 approaches, and the teams prepare to face-off in Barcelona, Rocco carries with him the hopes of his island nation, but he also carries the legacy of every coach, teammate, and supporter who helped shape his journey.
“Huge thanks to the Antigua and Barbuda Ministry of Tourism and the Antigua Yacht Club Marina and Resort,” Rocco adds, acknowledging the vital role that his home community has played in his success.
For this young sailor from Antigua, the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup represents more than just a race. It’s the culmination of years of dedication, a chance to test himself against the best, and an opportunity to inspire the next generation of Caribbean sailors to dream big.
