National sprinter and record-holder in the women’s 100 and 200 meters events, Joella Lloyd was, on Sunday, crowned champion in the 100 meters final of the NACAC New Life Invitational Champion after registering a time of 11.15 seconds.
Held in Nassau, The Bahamas, Lloyd outpaced Camille Rutherford of the Bahamas who clocked a time of 11.20 in second and Murielle Ahore-demps of Ivory Coast who finished third in a time of 11.24 seconds.
Lloyd currently holds the 100 meters national record with a time of 11.08 second achieved in 2022 at the NCAA Division 1 Championships in Eugene, USA in 2022 and also the 200 meters record of 22.66 seconds achieved at the same meet. Her 200 meters record eclipsed the 1994 record of 23.20 previously set by former national sprinter, Heather Samuel Daley.
The Antiguan will now turn her attention to the Antigua and Barbuda National Track & Field Championships slated for June 29-30 and dubbed “Road to Paris 2024”.
