The Antigua Lions Club has organised and executed a comprehensive women’s health awareness event at the Villa Polyclinic last month.
The session, themed “Importance on Early Detection and Action in Women’s Health,” featured the subtitle “Your Body Speaks to You Ladies. Listen Up!”
Leading the interactive session was Dr Raymond Mansoor, who serves as a Consultant at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC). Dr Mansoor focused on critical health topics including breast cancer self-examination, silent killer diseases, and risk reduction strategies. The session emphasised the importance of immediate medical consultation following the detection of any concerning symptoms.
The event received strong support from the government, with Minister of Social Transformation Senator Samantha Marshall delivering a reflective message on women’s health to participants. Adding to the government’s backing, Minister of Health and the Environment Sir Molwyn Joseph facilitated transportation services from Villa Polyclinic.
Lions Club President Kim Joseph highlighted the event’s success by requesting that Dr Mansoor should make this an annual service, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to sustainable community health initiatives. Marshall echoed this sentiment, advocating for broader distribution of educational content to benefit women across the nation.
The programme followed a structured format, beginning with the Lions Club Invocation and welcome notes, health messages, and formal acknowledgments.
The Lions Club’s dedication to community service extends beyond health initiatives to encompass various areas including hunger, vision, childhood cancers, and environmental concerns. Their motto, “We Serve,” reflects their commitment to uplifting and supporting those in need throughout Antigua and Barbuda.
This successful health awareness event demonstrates the power of community collaboration in addressing public health concerns and sets precedence for future initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of residents.
