An Antigua to Miami route may be a feature of the ‘new-look’ LIAT (1974) Ltd in 2020 after the company completes its restructuring process, which should begin this year.

“I look forward to the day,” said government’s spokesman, Information Minister Melford Nicholas, “when one of the options that I have when flying to a place like Miami, would be a LIAT flight.

“It is a very profitable route,” Nicholas added.

The Minister indicated that the route would allow LIAT to charge different rates given the dissimilarities between US and Caribbean markets.

“Based on the capacity for consumers in that particular market to pay, they are charged higher prices based on that. So, I think the Miami to Antigua route is reasonably profitable.”

Nicholas indicated that discussions have already begun with potential air industry partners to negotiate the necessary leases to accommodate for the increase in load and capacity under which LIAT presently operates.
