The Caribbean skies welcomed a familiar name with a fresh start yesterday as LIAT 2020 launched its inaugural flight.

On Tuesday, the aircraft departed from V.C. Bird International Airport in Antigua, bound for St. Lucia, carrying a select group of government officials and journalists.

This momentous occasion marks the rebirth of a regional icon, following extensive negotiations and planning.

The launch ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda, along with other dignitaries, highlighted the significance of this venture for inter-island connectivity.

LIAT 2020 emerges from a partnership between Caribbean governments and Nigerian airline Air Peace.

The airline begins its journey with a modest fleet of seven aircraft, focusing initially on key routes connecting Antigua and Barbuda, St. Lucia, and Barbados.

With a conservative schedule of three weekly flights, LIAT 2020 aims to establish a strong foundation before expanding its services.

As LIAT 2020 takes flight, it not only promises to enhance travel options for Caribbean residents and visitors but also symbolizes resilience and cooperation in the face of aviation industry challenges.
