Three Antiguan women who have made significant contributions to local society received special honours from some of their fledgling counterparts.
The Girl Up group – established last July to empower young teenage females – presented awards to nurse and women’s rights activist Alexandrina Wong, community stalwart Sarah Catherine Davis and steel pan arranger Zahra Lake.
The trio were formally recognised at Girl Up’s first extraordinary assembly which came on the heels of the group’s Black History Month project.
Since its formation, the Girl Up group has met with its patron, Minister Maria Browne, and given a welcome donation to the Sunshine Home for Girls.
