The minister responsible for Public Works, Eustace “Teco” Lake, was “doing much better” late yesterday than when he was admitted to Mount St John’s Medical Centre with kidney complications on Wednesday.

Last evening, in a release, Chief of Staff Lionel “Max” Hurst said his colleague was in stable condition and had improved, though he still needed a respirator to help him breathe.

Hurst said the Director of Medical Services Dr Albert Duncan advised the government that Lake is “comfortably resting” as he’s being treated by the “most talented doctors” at the medical centre.

He revealed that the St John’s Rural South MP “has some complications with his kidneys and that condition is being closely monitored with the expectation that the organs will recover”.

Well-placed sources said Lake has other complications, but they are not as serious as his kidneys. Reports are that he has been ill for several months now and had been travelling abroad for treatment.

Several Cabinet members and MPs, including Prime Minister Gaston Browne, visited their colleague at MSJMC on Wednesday, and yesterday, but he was unable to communicate with them because he was “heavily sedated”.
