The Under-18 female 3×3 national basketball team, the Lady Pitbulls, will battle St. Lucia in the quarterfinals of the International Basketball Federation (IBF) Antilles 3×3 Championships.
The team which comprises Karel Knight, Kahtalia Valentine, Athalia Ralph and captain, Laumeca Charles earned the right to represent the country after winning the local 3×3 tournament put on by the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA).
Lady Pitbulls went under to defending champions, Martinique, 12-4 on Saturday afternoon at the Cliff Anderson Hall Indoor complex in Guyana in their first Group B match-up.
They however bounced back in their final group B match to edge out Guadeloupe 6-5 to advance to the quarterfinals where they will face the third-place team in group A, St. Lucia.
The 3×3 format differs from the standard 5×5 rules where points are scored by singles and shots behind the arc are recorded as two-pointers.
The match however was scheduled to shoot off after press time on Sunday.
A win would guarantee the young ladies a spot in the semi-finals versus the winners of Group A, Barbados later that day.
The final is also scheduled to shoot off after press time.
