The organizer of today’s highly anticipated Antigua & Barbuda International Kite Festival, has postponed the event as high winds and rain plague the chosen kite flying site at Devil’s Bridge.

Chief organizer of the festival, Calvin Pilgrim, told OBSERVER media that the Kite Festival is being rescheduled for April 30: Labour Day weekend.
The event which has become an Easter weekend staple in Antigua, was scheduled to begin at 9 AM and finish at 5 PM.
Pilgrim says he regrets that the event had to be called off but he adds that the safety of the crew and the kites was in question.

Pilgrim also said that it has been informed by the Antigua & Barbuda Meteorological Office (Met Office) that the overcast conditions and intermittent rain will continue throughout the day.
The group added that the wet and windy condition could damage some of the kites were they to be flown.
Pilgrim has expressed his regret at the event having to be postponed, but he said he prefers to reschedule the festival on a day when the public can actually come out and participate.
