National kite-boarder and Olympian Tiger Tyson has hinted at the possibility of bringing an event to the shores of Antigua.

Speaking recently on the Good Morning Jojo sports show, Tyson said he has been in talks with members of a regional organisation regarding the possibility of hosting a kite-foiling championships here in the near future.

“I’ve been speaking with this organisation called Caribbean Foiling Championships and they have already hosted a couple of events in the Caribbean excluding St Martin and Antigua and they are doing both kite-foiling and wing-foiling which is starting to get really popular.

“So, it is definitely something to take into consideration in terms of getting some more events in the Caribbean and maybe bringing over some of the top guys in the world to display the sport and try to get people excited to learn it and get involved,” he said.

Tyson recently competed at the Paris Olympics, representing Antigua and Barbuda in kite-boarding which took place in Marseille, France.

The athlete described the opportunity as ‘incredible’ adding that he hopes his achievement will encourage others.

“The whole experience was incredibly special and being here [Paris] for Antigua, such a small nation and being surrounded by pretty much all of the other countries in the world, is a crazy feeling to be there representing you little island against all these big nations.

“I hope that I can inspire other people in Antigua and especially some of the younger generation to get into kite-surfing,” he said.

Tyson finished 17th overall in his event after more than half of the scheduled races were cancelled due to low or no wind on race days.
