King Zacari was crowned Calypso Monarch in the wee hours of today (Monday), dethroning his daughter Queen Thalia after performing two solid rounds at the Wadadli Beer Calypso Monarch Competition.
He is no stranger to winning, having copped several crowns in the past. Moments after he hugged his daughter and lifted her off her feet, King Zacari told OBSERVER media it is an honour to have won the Crown because it is a win for his entire family – there’s no rivalry between the father and daughter
His rendition of Descendants of Uncle Tom in round one and delivery of Carnival Anniversary 60 in round two were well received by the crowd just as they were by the judges, who also awarded him for the Best Spirit of Carnival Song.
First Runner up was won by Stumpy, who sang Gaston Computer and Like in the Time of Jesus. His performance of the latter song earned him Best Rendered Song of the competition.
Second Runner up was won by Queen Singing Althea who performed Caribbean Wake Up Call and Turn On the Light. She won Best Social Commentary Calypso for the song Turn On the Light.
