Ahjanya King and Jonathan Aubrey, two of the country’s newest IFBB Elite Pro bodybuilders, are eager to jumpstart their professional journeys following success at the Central American & Caribbean Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships held recently in Aruba.

Competing in the Women’s Wellness Seniors’ category (168 centimeters), King dominated the class to take first place before going on to claim the overall title and the right to her pro card.

“My body actually went numb at that moment and I was so happy that Kala was there because the only words that came out of my mouth was ‘Kala hold me’, so having that support from your other team members is a plus. The support from others and the warm welcome from the people in Aruba as well, it’s like you had the peace of mind and comfort going on the stage but the thought didn’t cross my mind that I was going to walk away with the pro card,” she said.

Aubrey, competing outside of Antigua for the first time, claimed top honours in the Men’s Classic Physique Seniors’ (up to 175 centimeters), finishing ahead of teammate Shaquelle Thomas. Aubrey then went on to claim the overall title and the rights to his pro card.

He said the support of teammates was pivotal to his success.

“I had a lot of support from the head coach and also my coach and also Shaquelle Thomas who was backstage with me. They were really there for me in terms of preparing and just saying you got this; just do your best and remember to squeeze as much as you can and everything they said I tried my best to really come through with it and it all worked out,” he said.

Meanwhile, coach of the team and an IFBB pro, Elvis Bailey, said the camaraderie in the team was exemplary throughout the championships.

“Not only for the two pros, but for the number of top placings we had and all of the medals that we attained during that championships. The togetherness, the team spirit and everything was just on point so I am pretty proud of the whole team and definitely proud of the new pros also,” he said.

The number of professional bodybuilders in Antigua and Barbuda now stands at 19.
