Jones falls short at Youth Olympics

National junior sprinter, Soniya Jones missed out on an opportunity to medal at the ongoing Youth Olympics Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Jones, who is the daughter of athletics coach and Assistant Director of Sports, Evans “Jawakie” Jones and former female sprinter, Sonya Williams, finished in 9th place in Stage 2-Heat 4 of the women’s 100 meters on Monday finishing in a time of 12.14 seconds; an improvement from her stage 1 race late last week where she ran 12.48 seconds.
The Princess Margaret School (PMS) student, despite the improvement, could not meet the medal standard times of Germany’s Beauty Somuah who claimed the top prize in a time of 11.24 seconds and silver medalist, Vitoria Pereira Jardim (Brazil) with 11.86 seconds run.
Finland’s Johanna Kylmana secured the bronze medal in a time of 11.91 seconds.
