John Hughes’ dominance continues as United trails quietly in First Division

John Hughes continues to lead the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association’s (ABFA) First Division following a 2-1 victory over a struggling Sea View Farm FC on Monday. Playing in Sea View Farm, the visiting John Hughes team had goals from Stephen Hughes and Lashain Ovansby in minutes 55 and 75, respectively, as they move to 25 points after 10 matches at the top of the standings. They are four points ahead of All Saints United but have played a game more.
Kenya Hughes scored the lone goal for the home team in the 60th minute as Farm remains second form bottom in the standings with four points after eight showings. Also, Pigotts Bullets kept themselves in the hunt for promotion with a 1-0 triumph over Empire FC. The lone strike of the contest came from Reinier Cerdeira in minute 72 as Bullets climbs to 17 points and third in the 12-team standings. Empire, following what was their fourth loss in nine outings, lies eighth in the standings with 13 points.
Still on Monday, Fort Road stunned Willikies to win 2-1 in Fort Road. Alren Lewis in minute 13 and Brandon Coates in minute 48 were on target for the home team as they move to fourth in the standings with 16 points. Willikies had their only goal of the contest come from Ordel Samuel in the 18th minute as they remain fifth with 15 points.
In the other matches played on Monday, Potters Tigers blanked Lion Hill 3-1 with a double from Jamore Martin and a single from Keon Greene for the victors. Potters moves into the seventh slot with 13 points. Also, Police defeated Hill Top 1-0 at the Police Recreation Ground. The lone goal of the match came from Rashawn Looby in minute 75 as the lawmen move to the ninth position with 10 points.
