Antigua and Barbuda’s Kofi James slammed a century in St Kitts on Sunday, inspiring Team Alzarri to an 84 runs triumph over Team Rahkeem in the first of three 50 overs trial matches being put on by the Leeward Islands Hurricanes as they prepare for the CWI Super50 slated to bowl off this month.

Batting first at Warner Park, Team Alzarri posted a commanding total of 275 for seven in their allotted 50 overs.

James was in excellent form, stroking a well-played 107 from 113 balls, hitting 12 fours and three sixes. The right-hander was involved in the 93 runs opening stand with Montserrat’s wicketkeeper batsman Joshua Grant who made 31.

After the fall of Grant, he added another 67 runs with seasoned batsman Terrance Warde of St Kitts who got 81 from 90 balls. West Indies’ Oshane Thomas bowled with pace and control, snapping up two wickets for 44 runs while left arm pacer Colin Archibald of Nevis got two for 60.

In response, Team Rahkeem got to 17 before fast bowler Alzarri Joseph removed his Antiguan compatriots Tyrone Williams Jr and Elroy Francis Jr in the space of two balls. Williams Jr. was the first to go when he fell for 13 while Francis Jr. went for a golden duck.

West Indies Under-19 left arm quick, Nathan Edward of St Marteen then removed his Empire Nation’s teammate Mikyle Louis of St Kitts, bowled for six runs, to leave Team Rahkeem reeling at 24 for three.

But then the diminutive pair of Liberta’s Karima Gore and Pigotts Jewel Andrew both of Antigua and Barbuda, saved Team Rahkeem some embarrassment by putting on a 105 run partnership. The West Indies Under-19 Andrew, fresh from his heroics in Sri Lanka, dominated the partnership scoring 62, which consisted of four fours and three sixes before he retired out after suffering cramps. Gore fell soon after the introduction of Montserrat’s Zawandi White, who collected four wickets for 30 runs. Team Rahkeem were eventually bowled out for 191 losing by 84 runs.
