A Jamaican national who escaped from the Immigration Detention Centre over the weekend will be deported.

Sanjaye Kemar Morgan is currently being held at His Majesty’s Prison while awaiting his flight scheduled for this morning.

On Sunday morning, Morgan escaped from the facility. After authorities issued a notice for his arrest, he surrendered around 2:40pm the same day.

Morgan’s mother, Susan Stephenson, was also taken into custody. Having lived in the country illegally since 2020, she was immediately ordered to be deported too.

Yesterday, Morgan appeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel in the All Saints Magistrate’s Court. After being reprimanded and discharged for escaping custody, his deportation order was granted.

Both Morgan and his mother are scheduled to be removed from the island today.
