Although his ultimate aim is a recall to the senior men’s team, all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall said his fate is in the hands of the selectors and the game’s regional authority, the Cricket West Indies (CWI).

Speaking recently on the Good Morning Jojo sports show, Cornwall, who is representing the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the CWI Professional Championships, said his focus is on performing well in the regional competitions.

“I don’t think that timeline is up to me. I always try to be as fit as possible and put in the performances, so it’s up to the selectors and whatever the board thinks, so I don’t think the timeline is really up to me. I am putting in my part and the performances are there, so I just leave it up to them,” he said.

Cornwall was surprisingly left out of the West Indies Test side for the two-Test series against Australia from November 29-December 12 in Australia 2022, with reports he had been replaced by Barbados’ all-rounder Roston Chase, after initially been told he was in the squad.

Since then, questions have been raised regarding his fitness and whether it played a factor in his de-selection.

Cornwall said he continues to work on all aspects on his game in the interim.

“Well, there is always room for improvement, but at the moment, I am just putting in the work. I still feel much better than how I did before and a little bit fitter so I just have to keep working. The goal is always to stay fit, once I am fit and performing, it is up to the selectors if they want me or not, but for me, I am still putting in the work and whatever opportunity I get I will grab it with both hands,” the player said.

Cornwall is currently representing the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the West Indies Championship.
