An interim committee has been formed to act as the negotiating arm between the Antigua & Barbuda Festivals Commission and calypsonians on island.

The seven-member body was created following the resignation of President of the Wadadli Calypso Association Adelza “Lady Lipstick” Sheridan who has been at the helm of the association for years.

Media Liaison Officer Ava “Sassy” Charles McKenzie said the group had its first meeting Tuesday evening to discuss the way forward and plans towards the 60th anniversary of Carnival.

“No major decisions have been made as yet. Last night was the first gathering of the members of the fraternity. The committee now will be meeting this Saturday to put together proposals and plans for calypsonians going forward, and then we would have to meet again with the body and the commission,” McKenzie said.

The liaison officer said the musicians fielded a number of questions and expressed their concerns regarding the 2017 Calypso Monarch competition.

The main concern was the suggestion for the competition to be moved from the last Sunday on the carnival calendar to the first Sunday.
