Insane Carnival marked its 10th anniversary by giving back to the local community.
The theme for the troupe’s T-shirt Mas’ this year was centred on the battle against breast cancer.
Many ‘troupers’ have fallen victim to the illness, a release said, and Insane Carnival felt compelled to join the fight in its milestone year.
Yesterday, Insane Carnival, the Insane Army and Dutty Mas’ stuck to their commitment and donated EC$20,000 to two charities.
Non-profit organisation Breast Friends received half the money – accepted by Secretary Michele Lynch – while Cathy Gilkes, Administrator of the St John Hospice, was presented with the other half.
Insane Carnival then pledged its commitment to adopting the hospice as its official charity forthwith.
Captain Lenroy Browne said, “Most of the patients there have contributed significantly to the development of Antigua and Barbuda and we want them to be in very comfortable surroundings.
“It’s a situation that is very dear to us and we at Insane Carnival are committed to finding ways to make that environment better for the patients that are there. Anything that we can do to make their final days more comfortable and anything that can make them at peace, that will be our aim for the St John Hospice.”
Insane Carnival’s Public Relations Manager, Patrice Martin, made the donations to both organisations.
