In an effort to raise funds ahead of their scheduled hosting of a regional sports and games competition involving a number of other inland revenue departments from across the Caribbean, the Inland Revenue Sports and Cultural Club will be hosing a scavenger hunt and Block-O-Rama on November 17.

Public Relations Officer of the Club, Mikaal Martin, explained that registration for the hunt now stands at $35 per person and that teams could have up to five members. She added there will be lots of prizes and surprises up for grabs.

“For first place, there are five prizes so everybody who came in first will get a prize. Second place will get four prizes so if you want to select somebody to get squeezed out or share amongst them, then that is the case. When the hunt is over, before the Block-O-Rama [street party], there will be the prizegiving ceremony, so we’ll be giving out the prizes just before the Block-O-Rama,” she said.

Johathan Henry, a longstanding member of the club who works in the property tax department at the Inland Revenue Department, explained that the initiative started on a very small scale some 26 years ago.

“It was just a couple of friends from St Lucia and St Vincent who just met up in some random Caribbean country and they just decided that we both can see if we can round up some people from our departments and have some little games, drinking up and probably some sports. After a while they started adding an extra island, and then it became the big flourishing Inland Revenue Regional Sports Games that we have so far. It started in 1998 and we have hosted in 2002 and in 2010,” he said.

Henry went on to thank a number of individuals who have, so far, played influential roles in planning the upcoming events.

“We have to show our appreciation to the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, Mr Ralph Warner, for assisting us with our planning. We do have a fundraising committee and they are actually in charge of this so we’re working on their behalf. Thanks also to our club members and general staff and anybody else who may come on board later on, we definitely appreciate the help,” he said.

The Block-O-Rama is set to start promptly following the scavenger hunt and will offer lots of entertainment while food and drinks will be on sale.

Persons wishing to register for the scavenger hunt can call 468-9532 or 468-9480.
