More than 750 children received packed school bags and essential supplies from St John’s Rural North MP Charles Fernandez over the weekend.

The event marked Fernandez’ 10th annual back-to-school donation for his constituency.

“This annual initiative is more than just providing supplies; it’s about ensuring that our young people have the tools they need to succeed, especially during these challenging times,” Fernandez said.

“Our youth are at their most vulnerable, and it is our duty to support them in every way possible. By equipping them with the necessary tools for learning, we are investing in their future and the future of our nation.”

In addition to school bags, the children received lunch kits, water bottles, exercise books, activity and colouring books, pens, pencils, calculators, geometry sets, flash drives, rulers, pencil cases, erasers, and crayons.

Each bag also contained a personalised message from the MP, encouraging students to pursue their dreams with determination and resilience.

It read: “Dear students of St John’s Rural North, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. As you step into this new school year, remember that each day brings you closer to your dreams. Believe in yourself, work hard, and success will follow. Best wishes for a fantastic school year ahead!”

During the distribution, one of the recipients of the back-to-school supplies, Oskeya Toney of Yorks Village, was recognised as the top-performing student from this year’s Grade 6 National Assessment examination among government schools.

In addition to her supplies, Minister Fernandez presented her with a laptop to further support her academic journey.
