One of the victims in a double murder this past October 4, has been laid to rest.
Sanchezca Charles was laid to rest in Barbuda on Saturday. The woman who had been receiving phlebotomy training in Antigua at the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre since the passage of Hurricane Irma in September 2017, is believed to have died at the hands of Charles ‘Burga’ James who reportedly stormed his family’s home in Donovan’s and opened fire on the occupants as he searched for a sister with whom he had been having the dispute.
The fatal incident was allegedly the culmination of a land dispute spanning over three years. The alleged shooter is still at large.
On the same day of Charles’ killing, James is believed to have also gunned down his niece Tahisha Thomas.
She will be laid to rest on October 31; however, her family will be hosting a candlelight vigil in her memory on Tuesday.
James also reportedly shot his nephew Lawrence James in the face but he survived the incident; the victim Charles was Lawrence James’ girlfriend.
The police have cautioned that residents should not approach Calvin James if he is seen, but instead should contact the Rapid Response Unit at 764-2348 or 464-3938 or call 911.
They have also circulated wanted notices to neighbouring islands for fear that he has fled the country.
There is a $25,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
