After sustaining a devastating ankle injury in training that almost prevented her from competing, 17-year-old Luisa Bogdanowicz did an amazing job representing Antigua and Barbuda in St Vincent last weekend where she won gold on balance beam.

In November at the Jamaica Classic, Bogdanowicz competed for the first time as a Level nine gymnast, the highest level currently existing in the Caribbean. She finished fourth in the all-around and was the first gymnast ever to represent Antigua and Barbuda in the sport of gymnastics.

At the Atlantis Crown Gymnastics Invitational in the Bahamas in December, an international competition with more than 1,200 gymnasts, she placed fourth on floor in her category.

It was also the first time that Antigua had its first gymnastics team in history. Level three gymnast, 15-year-old Anastatia Mayers competed as well in what was her first meet. She captured gold on vault with an impressive score of 9.35.
