Thirteen-year-old Sherana Daniels of Micobie, Region Eight, has tragically passed away after sustaining injuries in the devastating fire at the Mahdia Secondary School female dormitory on Sunday night.

The young girl had been at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital where she received treatment until the time of her death early Tuesday morning.

Sherana, her sister Trishana, 16, and stepbrother David, 12, were enrolled at the school, living full-time at the school’s dormitory during the trimester.

Cleste Samuels, had plans to pick up her daughter the next day, Sherana, after she had called home saying she wasn’t feeling well early Sunday, mere hours before the tragic fire that claimed multiple young lives.

At some point, Trishana contacted her mother using a teacher’s phone and told her that she was alive but couldn’t find Sherana, who had at the time been counted as amongst the deceased before being found alive, though injured and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

The valiant efforts to save her life proved unsuccessful, with Sherana succumbing to the deadly effects of carbon monoxide inhalation, despite having been resuscitated twice.

Sherana’s heartbreaking passing officially brings the death toll of this tragic inferno to 19 young girls and a 5-year-old boy.
