The government is taking decisive action to combat a recent surge in youth-related criminal activities.

In a cabinet meeting on August 28, 2024, three pieces of legislation were examined: the Anti-Gang Bill, the Child Justice (Amendment) Bill, and the Misuse of Drugs Amendment Bill.

These laws are set to be presented to Parliament next week.

A key focus of the new legislation is the introduction of increased minimum sentences for certain offences.

The cabinet has agreed on a minimum five-year sentence for gun-related crimes, a significant increase from the current two-year minimum.
