Garden Stars advance on penalties while Freeman’s Village book finals berth

Fans were treated to two thrilling matches in the Parham Super League on Sunday, as Garden Stars beat hosts Parham in a 4-2 penalty shootout, while Freeman’s Village attained a comeback win against Willikies to book a place in the finals on Sunday.

The first match played in the evening was the final quarterfinal match, which saw Parham FC and Garden Stars FC locked in a tense battle that ultimately required penalties to decide the victory.

 It was Garden Stars FC that drew first blood with Courtney Clarke finding the net early in the 10th minute. Then the home side, Parham FC, equalised through an Andy Daniel strike, bringing the scores level.

At full-time the score was squared-off at one all.

With the teams inseparable after regular time, the match proceeded to a penalty shootout with Garden Stars winning 4-2 via the penalty shoot out, which will see them advance to the second semi-final on Wednesday against Pigotts SC.

The first semi-final match of the league saw Freeman’s Village FC demonstrate their resilience by overcoming an early deficit to defeat Willikies FC.

Willikies FC struck early in the fifth minute, with Kwame Byers putting them ahead. But then Freeman’s Village FC equalised through Malik Charles in the 15th minute before Manuel Reyes completed the comeback sealing the two-one victory in the 25th minute.

They will now await the winner of Wednesday’s encounter between Pigotts FC and Garden Stars.
