National and West Indies cricketer, Hayden Walsh Jr, has revealed that he is fully recovered from what he called “mild symptoms” associated with the novel coronavirus.

The leg-spinner was ruled out of the One-Day International series against Bangladesh after having tested positive for Covid-19 in January.

Walsh continues to urge members of the public to do what they must to protect themselves and the people around them.

“I’ve had people tell me that this virus thing isn’t real, but trust me people, this thing is real. I think I am very fortunate that I only had a little mild symptom but it could have gone very bad for me because people have died from this. I advise everyone to please be careful, please wear your mask, please sanitise your hands and don’t drop your guard. I think the biggest thing about this is dropping your guard,” he said.

The Leeward Islands player is however thankful his case was not severe enough to require hospitalisation.

“What really stood out was my tiredness where I was literally going to sleep at nights and waking up tired like I need to go back to sleep. I had a little stuffy nose every now and then and a little tickle in my throat so there were very mild symptoms but my recovery has been good. I don’t feel tired, I don’t feel stuffy or any tickling in my throat so I’ve just been trying to get back on my feet and get ready again,” he said.

Walsh, who is now in isolation here in Antigua ahead of this weekend’s start to the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Super 50, said things are pretty much back to normal.

“I got here [Antigua] on Saturday and I have to do three days of isolation. I get out on Wednesday which I would probably start bowling some balls. Recently, I’ve just been doing my little workouts with some resistance bars and a little medicine ball that I have here with me,” he said.

The CWI Super 50 is slated to bowl off this weekend at both the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground and the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
