KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Experienced coach Connie Francis could be returning to the helm of the Sunshine Girls for the second time, media reports here have said.
The former national player, who served as national coach between 2006 and 2011, is said to be the front-runner to replace Minneth Reynolds who opted not to renew her contract last December.
According to the Gleaner newspaper, the search for a new coach is not formally expected to begin until next week, but Francis has already emerged as the likely main candidate.
During her first major stint in charge of the Sunshine Girls, she led them to a third place finish at the World Championships in New Zealand back in 2007.
She spent three years in charge of the St Lucia national programme until 2015 before returning here to take up the post of coach of the Fast5 side.
Francis subsequently led the national side to the Fast5 Netball World Series in Australia last October.
Jamaica are the highest ranked Caribbean side in the world, lying third behind number one-ranked Australia and second placed England.
They are coming off a 2-1 win over England in a three-match series in London last December.
