Four individuals have been left homeless after a fire destroyed their residence early Sunday evening.

Fire Chief Elvis Weaver said that officers responded to a fire in Skerritts Pasture at around 6.35pm and found the uninsured house fully engulfed.

He said that one of the occupants reported smelling smoke while she was in the living room, and subsequently found the fire coming from a closet in the front bedroom.

However, the blaze got out of control so quickly that there was nothing the occupants could do but get out of the house.

Three adults and a child occupied the small wooden dwelling.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
