Four young Antiguan footballers will get the opportunity of a lifetime when they arrive in Spain to play for a semi-professional team.

The four men – Raheem Deterville and Jahiem Hazelwood of Old Road FC, Zaire Scott of Green City, and Shawn Watkins of Abaya FC – left the country yesterday to begin their new journey with the La Albatalia team.

The quartet joins a list of other youth footballers showcasing their talents overseas in recent months.

Defender Amali Colbourne and striker Troy Jules, who has represented Antigua and Barbuda at junior level, joined USL League’ s South Bend Lions in the UK last month, while in June Jajuan Williams and Jade Browne travelled to Nicaragua.

Williams plays for Division One club Art Jalapa FC, and Browne for Division Two’s Estelle FC.

In April, young midfielders Calique Simon and Blaivon James were offered contracts for Mexico’s Zimapan Mineros FC.
