Former Premier Division football champions, Empire Football Club, started their 2018/19 campaign on a winning note when, on Monday, they beat Police 2-1 in the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association’s (ABFA) First Division.
Playing at the King George V Ground, Empire opened the scoring after Jalmoro Calvin who scored in the second minute. The lead was however short-lived after Saleem Colbourne drew Police level in 15 minutes.
The Grays Farm team had to wait for another 72 minutes after their opening strike before they could celebrate once more as, on minute 74, Tajah Gordon scored what would turn out to be the winner.
Also on Monday, Willikies and Potters Tigers played to a 1-1 draw when they clashed in Willikies. Kwame Thomas scored for Willikies while Watende Grayman equalised for Tigers.
The match between Sea View Farm and Pigotts Bullets was not played. A reason for the postponement was not readily available.
