Former national track athlete Maverick Weatherhead has launched a charitable foundation to assist poorer students in Barbuda.

Students at the Holy Trinity Primary School were the first recipients under the Strive for Greatness Foundation to receive school supplies.

The 29-year-old told OBSERVER media that he chose to launch the foundation “to help the youths who are less fortunate and can’t afford to get the necessary school supplies”.

“I just had to do something to help them” he said.

Weatherhead is also expected to make a similar donation to students at the Sir McChesney George Secondary School on Wednesday.
