Defending D1 champions Flyers Basketball, rallied to their second straight victory in the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) top flight over the weekend, recording a dominant 91-47 triumph over Da Project on Saturday night.
Playing in the feature game of a double-header at the JSC Basketball Complex, Flyers outscored their opponents in all four quarters, dominating the opening quarter 18-14, claiming the second quarter 25-15, taking the third 22-11 and rounding out their onslaught with a 26-7 fourth quarter showing to record the huge 44 points win.
T-Shawn Lewis was the top scorer for Flyers with 15 points off the bench while also picking up eight rebounds. Delonte Phillip contributed with 14 points and seven rebounds while there were 11 points each for Xavier Meade and Najee George. Meade also grabbed 12 rebounds.
In a losing effort, Sean Nicholas top-scored for Da Project with 19 points and picked up 14 rebounds. He was assisted by Bryan Matthew with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
In Saturday’s opening contest, Warriors defeated Ottos Full Throttle, 75-62, also at JSC. The closely contested battle saw Full Throttle claiming the first quarter 18-16 before Warriors rebounded to outscore their opponents 23-13, 20-19 and 16-12 in the second, third and fourth quarters respectively.
Warriors were led by Kebo Orford and Lincoln Weekes who both had 15 points. Orford also had 15 rebounds. Faisal Obeidat contributed to the winning effort with 14 points while Zuri Nesbitt sank 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds also for the victors.
For Ottos, Akeem Davis sank 16 points and grabbed five rebounds while Sheldon Abrams had 12 points and six rebounds off the bench. There were 11 points each for Warren Bogle and Nechus Jones with Bogle also getting 11 rebounds.
