Defending league and playoff champions, EZ Fit Flyers, remained unbeaten in the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) Division 1 competition with an impressive 79-68 victory over Spanish Heat on Sunday at the JSC Basketball Complex.
Despite the 11-points triumph, the game had many twists and turns with Flyers outscoring Spanish Heat 24-13 in the first quarter. The momentum switched hands in the second quarter with Spanish Heat outscoring the defending champions 22-13 before Flyers returned to take the third quarter 22-11. Spanish Heat claimed the final quarter 22-20 but it was not enough to take them over the hump.
Adonis Humphreys was the chief architect for Flyers with 16 points and a staggering 19 rebounds. Selassie Brathwaite contributed with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Delonte Phillip added 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
In a losing effort, Danny Perez of Spanish Heat sank a game-high 26 points while grabbing five rebounds. He was assisted by Daniel Perez with 12 points and five rebounds while Bernard Andrew picked up 10 points and 10 rebounds playing off the bench.
Meanwhile, Northside Stingerz rallied to a third straight win, trouncing Ottos Full Throttle 86-68 also at JSC. Stingerz won the first three quarters, outscoring Full Throttle 22-16 in the first, 18-15 in the second and 26-15 in the third. Full Throttle rebounded to take the fourth and final quarter 22-20.
Leading the way for Stingerz was Te-Ran Zachariah with 23 points and six rebounds. Alexander Fuller contributed with 14 points and five rebounds off the bench. Jaheem James and Tristan Jacobs both had 12 points with Jacobs also grabbing eight rebounds. Jevonte Valerie sank eight points and grabbed 16 rebounds.
On a losing note, Nechus Jones dropped 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds with help coming from Warren Bogle who had 21 points and five rebounds. Mali Newton sank 13 points.
