Flyers 2 open Division 2 campaign with win as Spanish Heat get welcomed victory

Flyers 2 recorded a resounding 74-45 victory over Da Project as they opened their Division 2 campaign in the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) competition on Tuesday.

Playing at the JSC basketball complex, Flyers 2 outscored Da Project in the first three quarters, winning the first quarter 23-6, claiming the second quarter 23-2 and winning the third 16-14. Da Project rebounded to take the fourth quarter 23-12.

Harry Rashaun and Hansel Piper both picked up 13 points for the winners with Rashaun also grabbing 15 rebounds. Amare Browne contributed with 12 points while Tyrese White sank nine points

In a losing effort, Nathan Matthew hit 13 points for Da Project while Gabriel De-Suza contributed with 11 points and five rebounds.

In the other contest, Spanish Heat beat Navigators 96-82.

Spanish Heat started strong, outscoring Navigators 24-11 before Navigators rebounded to claim the second quarter 30-18. Spanish Heat then won back-to-back quarters, winning the third 22-15 and the fourth 32-26.

Wester Batiste top-scored for Spanish Heat off the bench, sinking 22 points. Kevin Pimental contributed to the win with 21 points while Jesus Emmanuel had 16 points and six rebounds. Erwin Rodriguez sank 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while there were 13 points and 12 rebounds from Maicol Reyes.

For Navigators, Ariel Quallis top-scored with 23 points while pulling seven rebounds. Raheem Sawyer bagged 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds with De-Lornge Jules adding 12 points. Baldwin Anthony Jr had 11 points and 16 rebounds.
