The family of the 18-year-old New Winthorpes youth who was stabbed on the weekend is making an urgent appeal for O-positive blood as he fights for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
Jvaune Farrell, the victim of the heinous attack, remains in a critical condition and is in need of blood.
June Farrell, Jvaune’s mother, shared her son’s current condition as she made an urgent public appeal for blood.
She told Observer that her son remains “like a veg, lying there”.
“He still needs blood,” Farrell said, with her voice full of concern. “I would like if somebody can help donate some blood because the doctor said he needs blood still. As we’re speaking, he needs blood.”
This emotional appeal underscores the severity of Jvaune’s condition and highlights the immediate need for community support.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old suspect has been detained in connection with the brutal stabbing incident that occurred on Saturday evening in Barnes Hill.
The juvenile suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed due to legal age restrictions, was turned in to St. John’s Police Station by one of his parents on Sunday afternoon.
Farrell, balancing her work commitments with the need to be by her son’s side, expressed her intention to visit Jvaune after finishing her work shift. Her strength in the face of such adversity is palpable, as she navigates this challenging time while also reaching out to the public for crucial assistance.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded around 9pm when Farrell was visiting a friend’s home in Barnes Hill. What should have been a casual evening among friends took a terrifying turn when three men, described as heavily armed with both guns and knives, arrived at the location in a silver vehicle.
Eyewitnesses recount one of the assailants allegedly stabbing Farrell multiple times in a frenzied attack. The brutality of the assault has left the community in shock, struggling to comprehend the motives behind such a vicious act.
In the aftermath of the stabbing, the three assailants fled the scene in their vehicle, leaving behind a critically injured Farrell. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, rushing Farrell to the hospital where medical professionals have been working tirelessly to save his life.
While the apprehension of a suspect marks a significant breakthrough in the case, the involvement of such a young individual in a violent crime has sparked discussions about youth violence and the need for community intervention programs.
Law enforcement officials have emphasised that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying and apprehending the other two suspects involved in the attack. The police are urging anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the other suspects to come forward.
