Family and friends of former sports enthusiast and well-known public figure, Albert “Kentae” Semper, will gather at the Bendals playing field and basketball court on January 4 for a candlelight vigil in his memory.
The vigil, according to community activist and a close friend of Semper, Jason “Bassue” Peters, will take a unique format where family members of the deceased and villagers will leave the community bus shed at 6pm while another group of close friends and others will leave from the Townhouse Mega Store at 5:45pm.
“The family of Kentae, his immediate family, had organised a candlelight vigil scheduled for Thursday and another team had called the family to ask for permission to have one, for which permission was granted but after having discussions with them, we had come to a decision to let’s have one candlelight vigil culminating at Bendals school,” he said.
Semper passed away on December 2 at the age of 61.
Peters said that once gathered at the playing field, individuals will be given the opportunity to pay tribute to Semper.
“We will have persons giving their speech as to how Kentae would have positively impacted their lives and we would just be doing a remembrance of Kentae in talk, song or whatever mode.
“We want to start the speech side of it at 7pm and also we have a tentative cut off time at 9pm because I know this could go on and on and we need to have some respect for people’s time also.
“I am making an urgent plea for people from different organisations and persons who Kentae was part of who feel they want to take part in this to reach out to me at 727-0117,” he said.
Semper will be laid to rest on January 10 following a service at the Ebenezer Methodist Church, starting at 1pm.
