Akido McDonald, the Jamaican national who escaped from Immigration custody last week, has pleaded guilty in court following his recapture on Saturday.

The 26-year-old St. Ann resident has been fined EC$1,500, which must be paid within 48 hours.

McDonald, who was initially denied entry into Antigua and Barbuda on Thursday, January 23, will be deported to Jamaica once the fine is paid.

He is scheduled to depart on the next available flight this Thursday.

In the interim, McDonald has been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

This development follows his successful recapture during an intelligence-driven operation by Police and Immigration officers at a property in Swetes on Saturday, where two other individuals were also taken into custody.

The Immigration Department continues its investigation into the incident, including the circumstances of McDonald’s escape from the Immigration Detention Centre at Coolidge on Friday afternoon and potential charges against those who may have assisted him.
