Errol Barnes has been sentenced to 39 years in jail for the murder of his former girlfriend and mother of his child Melissa Rose.
Justice Iain Morley imposed the sentence moments ago in the High Court.
Police sources said the convict was told he would serve a minimum of 26 years before his sentenced is reviewed.
Barnes, a former national footballer, had denied murdering Rose and said it was a case of “mistaken identity”.
Rose was shot and killed outside her John Hughes home after 10 pm on September 5, 2012.
The prosecution said the crime was one stemming from jealous rage because Rose had ended the abusive three-year relationship several weeks before her death.
