There were huge wins for Enforcers in the 15 overs competition, and for Dredgers in the 30 overs competition as action continued in the Antigua and Barbuda Softball Cricket Association (ABSCA) leagues over the weekend.
Playing in the St John’s Co-operative Credit Union-sponsored 15 overs female competition, Enforcers made light work of Clippers to win the one-sided affair by 112 runs at Dredgers.
Winning the toss and opting to bat, Enforcers amassed 174 runs for two in their 15 overs with Grace Persaud hitting a top score of 64, and Sacha Michael making 55 not out.
When their turn at the crease arrived, Clippers could only get to 62 for seven from their 15 overs. Karen Cort top-scored with 18 runs. Lokuehl Pelle and Michael each bagged two wickets.
There was victory as well for Potters Uprising as they beat Jennings Rockets by 78 runs. Asked to bat by their opponents, Potters Uprising posted 133 for two in their 15 overs with Nolia Elvin-Hodge hitting a top score of 35 not out, and Tawana John making 24.
Rockets, when their turn at crease arrived, ran out of fuel as they were restricted to just 55 for eight in their 15 overs. Kushana Davis top scored with 21 while there was a four-wicket haul for Tawana John who bagged four for eight in three overs.
In the other 15 overs match contested Sunday, Bullets defeated Flyers by 11 runs.
Meanwhile, Dredgers were the biggest winners in the Caribbean Alliance Insurance-sponsored 30 overs men’s competition with a 97 runs triumph over Old Road.
Winning the toss and opting to bad, Dredgers compiled 210 runs for six wickets. Mervin Higgins hit a top score of 54 while Vernal Isadore made 46 not out. Hezekiah Weston was best with the ball for the opponents, picking up three wickets for 34 runs in six overs.
Old Road were then dismissed for 113 in just 15 over with Weston making 27. Stelbert Plant was picked up a five-for bowling for Dredgers as he bagged five wickets for 15 runs in five overs.
Also, on Sunday, a half century from Kim George who made 52, helped to propel Strictly Business to a seven-wicket win over 300. George had help from Egbert Francis who made 28 not out and Charles James who made 27 as Strictly Business overhauled the 139 all out posted by 300 to take the contest.
Earlier, a knock of 71 from Veston Lewis and 46 from Kennedy Tonge helped to lift 300 to the defendable total. There were two wickets each for Aurthur Crogman and Owen Graham.
In other matches over the weekend, Buckley’s 3J’s defeated Bullets by 36 runs and PMS beat Sisserou by 50 runs.
