Another elderly man has become the victim of robbers who entered his home Monday night, ransacked his property and left him battered and bruised.
Police say the Jolly Harbour resident was assaulted and robbed during the incident that occurred around 9pm.
Spokesman Inspector Frankie Thomas told Observer that officers from Bolans Police Station are investigating.
Four male suspects dressed in dark clothing are said to have forcefully entered the man’s home, making off with an undisclosed sum of money, plus a laptop computer and other personal documents.
The victim was also assaulted by one of the perpetrators, leaving him badly shaken with cuts and bruises to his face.
It is alleged that the armed men gained entry into the villa through a patio door.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious persons in the area on Monday night to contact the Bolans Police Station at 462-1080 or Crimestoppers on 800-8477.
This is the second incident in which an elderly man has been the target of a home invasion in less than three weeks.
On June 20, an 81-year-old Swetes man was also beaten and robbed by unknown gunmen. Weygand Moore was wounded in his left eye with a gun and also received an injury to his head.
The robbers stole a number of items from his home including money and clothing. That matter reportedly remains under investigation.
And in late May, a Bolans family including a young child was also left traumatised after robbers burst into their home during the night, injuring a man in his late 60s.
Meanwhile, Monday night’s incident has been condemned by the area’s MP Kelvin Simon.
“Violent crime strikes again in St Mary’s South and my heartfelt prayers go out to the elderly gentleman who was brutally beaten in a home invasion in Jolly Harbour.
“It appears that criminals are at war with innocent citizens, especially the elderly,” he said.
“This administration has left us to fend for ourselves because public safety is not a priority. The Bolans police station is still not fully equipped and officers have not been empowered with the requisite resources to function effectively. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the last violent home invasion, and there are many unsolved crimes in our community.
“The government seems unconcerned about the reality of this brutal crime crisis. Our community continues to live in fear.”
Simon added that he planned to organise an anti-crime town hall meeting for the area.
