Two gunmen held up workers at Sweet-T’s restaurant in Falmouth last night and robbed them of the cash register and all its contents – last evening’s earnings – just as the workers were preparing to close for the day.
A worker at the business which is popular for its ice-creams, told OBSERVER media last night that the robbers appeared to be men who are “quite” young and they were masked and wore gloves.
She said the incident has left the workers traumatised and nervous, while they’re thankful they were not physically hurt.
Another individual, who is one of the managers, said she was with the police at the time when OBSERVER media called about the incident and could not provide much details. She said she was not at the restaurant during the attack.
But, she confirmed that the staff reported that at about 8:30 p.m. the robbers walked up to the business that is located on the main road leading to English Harbour.
According to her, after  threatening the staff with their guns and grabbing the cash register, the men escaped on foot.
The business is surrounded by close circuit security cameras and the police have already reviewed the footage with the hope of obtaining more evidence to help catch the perpetrators.
The police had not issued any statement about the incident up to press time last evening, but usually when they do, they urge residents to report anything they know to the nearest police station, to the Rapid Response Unit at 764-2348 or 464-3938 or to call 911.
